Do you actually know which of your coworkers is one click away from getting the whole company hacked? It’s surprisingly easy to get into a business’ IT system. All it takes is one person falling for a fake email, downloading a sketchy file, or giving up their password to a scammer.
If you aren't testing your team, you’re basically just waiting for a disaster to happen. Here is why simulated phishing tests—sending out fake scam emails—are actually a great way to protect your business.
## Find the Click-Happy People Before a Hacker Does
Every office has that one person who clicks every single link they see. If you aren't running tests, that one person could accidentally bypass all the expensive security software you bought.
Running a fake attack gives you a click-rate report. It’s not about calling people out or being a snitch; it’s about seeing who needs a little extra help. You want to catch the mistake now, when it’s just a test, rather than later when it’s a real ransom situation.
## Make Security a Reflex, Not a Chore
You don’t want people to have to think hard about security; you want it to be muscle memory.
When you run these tests regularly, like once a month, your team starts to automatically scan every DM and email for red flags. Over time, you’ll see the failure rate drop. Even if you don't see the security working, the fact that nothing is getting hacked is the ultimate win.
## Learn from Mistakes in Real-Time
Nobody wants to sit through a boring PowerPoint on a Friday afternoon. The information doesn't stick. The best time to learn is right after you mess up. If an employee clicks a fake link, they get sent to a page that says this was a test and shows them exactly how they got tricked. Honestly, they’ll actually be curious about what they missed because they're already invested. It turns a potential disaster into a quick, thirty-second lesson that actually sticks.
